Photography contest

The Consortium organises the annual Serra de Tramontana World Heritage Photography Contest, in collaboration with the Balearic Islands Nature Photography Association (AFONIB).

The sixth edition of the competition, September 2024, is endowed with 5,700 euros in prizes divided into four categories that focus both on the values of World Heritage and on the Distintiu Serra de Tramuntana.

Registration for the competition is free of charge, and the main content of the material submitted must be located within the territory of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, which has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (see the official map). Participation is open to all amateur photographers and professionals who are the authors of the images they submit and own the rights to them.

Each participant can submit a maximum of three photographs per category, accompanied by a caption or description, without any reference to the authorship of the image. The photographs must be submitted in digital format via the platform serradetramuntana.pixall.es

The period to apply for the competition begins on 4 September 2024 and ends on 24 September 2024, both days included.

The four categories of the 6th Serra de Tramuntana World Heritage Photography Contest are:

  • Products and producers. Images of the products of the Serra de Tramuntana. They include the whole process that they follow until they reach the plate: sowing, harvesting, manufacturing, preparation in the kitchen and presentation at the table.
  • Villages of the Serra. Detailed views of villages and urban centres and their nooks and crannies, with special attention to the hidden heritage elements. Streets and squares, doorways, façades and their elements, etc.
  • Heritage elements. Everything that makes the Serra a UNESCO World Heritage Site: dry stone constructions, hydraulic network (wells, waterwheels, mine fountains, aqueducts, irrigation channels, canals, water mills, wash houses, cisterns, wash houses, etc.), riverbanks and terraces, cobbled paths, towers and watchtowers, possessions, etc.
  • Experiences in the Serra. Moments in which the visitor experiences the essence of the Serra: cultural events, popular festivals, mountaineering, hiking, visits with heritage interest, tastings of typical products, etc.
